Mold Prevention in Your Hamilton County Home

Finding mold in your home can be a scary and overwhelming experience. Although we at SERVPRO of Hamilton County are here for you every step of the way to help eliminate mold should you find it, we believe that prevention is the best weapon against mold growth. Follow these easy tips to prevent mold in your home or workplace.
1. Keep the humidity level in your home between 40-60%. A moisture meter can be purchased inexpensively from your local hardware store. Signs of high humidity include condensation on windows, pipes and walls. If you find wet surfaces, dry them immediately and address the source of the moisture.
2. Be sure your home is properly ventilated in areas where moisture can accumulate such as bathrooms, the kitchen and laundry room. Direct vented air outdoors when possible rather than to the attic or other area inside your home.
3. Direct water away from your home by ensuring that the ground slopes away from the foundation. Be sure to keep your gutters clean so water can properly drain away from your home.
4. If you find moisture in your home dry the area immediately and thoroughly, preferably within 12-24 hours.
