Floods After Winter Storms

With crazy fluctuations in temperatures, it's hard to know what Mother Nature will throw at us next. After the shocking cold temperatures and heavy snowfalls that come with winter weather, a rise in temperature can feel like a welcome change. Unfortunately, warmer weather after significant snow and ice can lead to flooding and potential damage to your Carmel area home or business.
Six inches of packed snowfall will create approximately one inch of water when melted. This water can overwhelm creeks, rivers and drainage systems and end up where you don't want it - such as your basement. Ice that has formed around your doors and windows and on your roof can tax your home's gutters when temperatures begin to climb.
Be prepared for the ups and down of winter weather in Indiana. Check to be sure your sump pump is functioning and consider a battery back up in case your home loses power. When weather allows, check to be sure your gutters are free of debris to allow water to drain properly away from your home.
