October is Fire Safety Month: Workplace Fire Prevention
10/29/2019 (Permalink)
October is Fire Safety Month! Ensure your place of business is prepared in the event of a fire emergency by following these simple guidelines.
*Reduce workplace clutter! Unnecessary buildup of paper and supplies can become fuel in the event of a fire. Utilize storage facilities for files that you don't use frequently and remove waste and recycling frequently. Keeping clutter to a minimum will also allow easier access to exits and emergency equipment in case a fire does occur.
*Test sprinklers annually and smoke detectors monthly. Never stack or store items in a way that blocks sprinklers.
*Be sure each employee area has clear exit diagrams and a well lit floor plan. Discuss your company's evacuation plan with your employees.
*Make sure there are an adequate number of working fire extinguishers and be sure all of your employees know how to use them.
*Take care of electrical or wiring problems immediately. Don't overload circuits or extension cords and have a qualified electrician replace frayed or damaged wiring ASAP.
Following these simple tips can make your workplace a safer place in the event of an emergency.
