Property Damage Caused by Summer Storms

The heat wave and low rainfall that has descended on Central Indiana have created the perfect setting for summer storms that can appear suddenly and severely damage your property. Pop up thunderstorms are often accompanied by high winds, lightening and flash flooding.  Protect your home from these damaging storms by following these tips:

*Install power strips in your home to protect your electronics and appliances from power surges that occur with nearby lightening. If severe weather is forecast in your area, it may be helpful to take the additional step of unplugging these items completely. 

*Regularly inspect trees and shrubbery on your property. High winds can bring down limbs and pose a threat to your roof, home, vehicles, and fencing. Contact a professional tree removal company if you have questions about the health of your trees or to remove large limbs or trees from your yard.

*Check your basement's sump pump regularly and consider purchasing a battery powered back-up system. 

*Remove debris from your home's roof and  gutter system. Blocked downspouts can cause water to collect around your home's foundation and subsequently cause water damage inside your home.
